This vest is an adaptation to Cherle Oberle's Sakiori Vest in her book Folk Vests; we used six skeins of Shira and four skeins of Nakuru (colorway Early
Sunset) for the largest vest (48"). We plugged in our gauge and knit in garter stitch for the main panels of the vest with Shira and edged it with Nakuru in the same colorway. It is often suggested when working with hand-dyed or painted yarns to alternate two rows of one ball and two of another. We wanted to illustrate what would happen if this technique was not used. We knit one front panel and one back panel from one skein of yarn and the other front and back panels from another skein to create a subtle and harmonious variation. You can see that the color proportions are slightly different in the panels, while still harmonizing as a design feature. |
